Premier 1

Travelled to Leeming today hopeful to remove the nemesis that Leeming have become over the past few seasons.

Rechelle Cole stepped up to skip a rink in the absence of Kristina, who had university commitments. With great support from Shari Solly, Shaan Saunders and Toni Madigan, they took on the talented Sue Neil rink, and came away with a solid 26 -19 win.

Helen Morss’ regular rink of Lara Merz, Liz Matthews and Helen Heal battled all day but managed to widen the gap half way through the game and went on to win 24 – 20.

Therese Hastings also took to the green with her regular rink, Robyn Jolly, Robyn O’Brien and Shenayde Heldt  and gave the whole team huge confidence by taking a big early lead. Although Leeming pegged them back for awhile they pulled away to win confidently 29 – 17.

Although the bowls were not brilliant today, there were some very relieved players, happy we had finally won away to Leeming.

1 Green South

Our ladies travelled to Belmont and whilst coming away with 2 points it was a tough day at the office.

Marg Booth’s team came up against a very determined Belmont team and made a valiant effort to keep in touch – some good bowls were contributed by all team members but unfortunately they just could not get in front.

Wendy Dolton’s rink kept ahead and managed to come away with a good score of 23 – 13- well done to all in the team

Debbie Capper filled in as Skip for Viv Thompson who was moving house – Debbie did a great job and the team managed to get over the line by 1 with a 27 – 26 win. With quite a few shots down the team then got a 7 and although one team member missed this trying to find the first aid kit due to a bee sting this set the team up to come back at the Belmont ladies. With two ends to go and 2 shots down the only option was to play Kitty in ditch, not an easy ask with two “sand bunkers on our rink” and gusty wind conditions however Debbie stepped up and after great calls by the 3rd Vicki Herbert and Coach Alan Booth Debbie did the perfect shot and we went 3 up for the end – well done Debbie and all in the team. (note: Valerie recovered from the sting with minimum swelling thanks to quick action to remove the sting and keep it iced)

Next week we are home to Safety Bay (1) and a win will move us up to 2nd spot

Well done to all and good bowls for the rest of the season

3 Blue

Today 3rd Division Blue played Yokine on the smooth D green at Manning.

The conditions were beautiful today, the sun burning and the breeze cooling. Mavis Jones’ rink jumped out of the blocks, starting out with a comfortable lead and never losing it.

Sandra O’Toole was a welcome addition to the team, it was good to see her return and in fine form. They had such a successful day that they took away the pots with a shots up total of 17. Well done! The other two rinks had an up and down day, with Bernice’s rink changing leads throughout and finally ending up with a drawn game after a tight tussle. Saff’s rink were trailing badly and were in danger of missing out on the aggregate, happily a 4 pickup on the second last end secured the aggregate for team, even though the rink lost.

We are currently 2nd on the ladder, trailing 1st by a mere 1 point. Next week is a bye, so we are sure to pick up a win!
